Dawn Daugherty, DVM, MPH

Dr. Dawn Daugherty, DVM, MPH, dreamed of becoming a veterinarian since childhood. Originally from St. Louis, she spent time volunteering at wildlife rehabilitation centers prior to veterinary school, helping shape her passion for animal medicine and conservation.

Dr. Daugherty earned her Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 2018 and was accepted into the university’s dual-degree program, where she completed both her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees in 2021. During her training, she completed externships at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine Exotic and Wildlife Hospital, Broward Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital, and The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota. She also volunteered at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota, one of the largest wildlife hospitals in the world.

While in veterinary school, Dr. Daugherty was selected for a competitive scholarship through the University of Minnesota that allowed her to spend three weeks in South Africa working on wildlife species conservation efforts. She became Fear Free Certified for dogs and cats in 2021 and was inducted into the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society, an honor awarded to students graduating in the top 25% of their veterinary class.

Dr. Daugherty enjoys working with all species and has particular interests in exotic and avian medicine and surgery. She is currently pursuing ABVP board certification in avian medicine. In addition to her clinical work, she serves as a volunteer veterinarian for The Wildlife Center of Salt Lake, Utah Wildlife Foundation, and Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah. She has also been invited to speak multiple times at conferences hosted by the Association of Avian Veterinarians.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Daugherty enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, crafting, drawing, painting, and being with friends and family. She shares her home with her husband, two bulldogs, and a 19-year-old green-winged macaw she has raised since he was a hatchling.
